My January Goals and Mid-Month Update

I’m sharing my January goals on the blog today! I’ve always been pretty goal-oriented, so it was no surprise to my family when I asked for a goal planner for Christmas. Specifically, I asked for a set of PowerSheets by Lara Casey, to help me figure out my priorities and goals for the new year. Though I loved the idea of some help in planning my goals, I have to admit that what really got me was the design. Bright, cheerful, and colorful; I fell in love as soon as I saw it! Much more impressive, though, is how helpful it’s been to me; in just the last three weeks, I’ve seen a huge improvement in how focused I am on my goals. Though we’re only halfway through January, I feel like I’ve already done so much this month!

I love reading about others’ goals, and since I’m really focusing on goal-setting right now, I thought I’d share about my own on the blog today! Though I have some large-scale “resolutions” for the year, I’m doing my best to make them more manageable by breaking them down on a monthly basis, so these goals are just for January. I think I might make this a monthly series, both to keep me accountable and because they’re so fun to read.

My January Goals and Progress

Meet regularly with a personal trainer and get into a fitness routine

The Goal: Especially now that I’ve graduated from college, I’m doing my best to focus on establishing healthy patterns when it comes to food, exercise, and sleep. I used to exercise fairly regularly, but in college I didn’t prioritize physical health at all, and ended up becoming pretty complacent and inactive. I started exercising with a personal trainer so I could push past my limits without getting injured.

My Progress: Three weeks into meeting with a personal trainer, and I’ve had six one-hour sessions. I absolutely love it; before meeting with my trainer, I really had no idea what my body could do, or how to exercise with the proper form. I have two sessions to go before I move, and I’m planning to find a gym within a few days of moving to the Netherlands.

Clean out my room before I move

The Goal: I tend to be pretty organized when it comes to school and work, but my home space rarely reflects that. My rooms at home and at school have always been pretty cluttered, and I feel stressed and overwhelmed in response to the mess. Especially after three moves into and out of a college dorm in the last year and a half, I’ve had tons of boxes of things in my room, collecting dust. Now that I’m starting a new chapter of my life, I’m trying to improve my life by improving my living spaces, too.

My Progress: This goal has been going great so far. After hours and hours of work, laundry, unpacking, and throwing out, my room finally reflects the person I want to be. My last areas of focus are under the bed, and reorganizing my books. I’m planning on doing a room tour soon, to show you guys my progress!

Refocus my creative vision and finish up a few projects

The Goal: My last few weeks of school were pretty hectic, so I had a hard time keeping up with my sites: Sara Laughed, Seasons Illustrated, and College Compass. Now that I’ve finished up school, I’m craving some time to refocus my creative vision and make concrete plans when it comes to my sites. Specifically, that has meant honing in on my new direction for Sara Laughed, finishing up the Love Stories study for Seasons Illustrated, and making plans for the future of College Compass.

My Progress: I’m super happy with my progress on this goal. I finished up the Love Stories study and am making plans for Lent Illustrated for my Bible journaling site. I’ve been working on the College Compass Instagram page and am making plans for new content on the site. I also made a content plan for Sara Laughed through the end of January. I’m hopeful about where the sites will go in the coming weeks!

I’m planning to check in again with my progress at the end of the month. In the meantime, I’d love to hear about your goals for January. What are you hoping to accomplish in the coming weeks? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks so much, Jamie! I just had my eighth session with her and it totally kicked my butt. It makes such a difference to see what your body can do – and how to do it with the right form!

Good job with your January goals! I’ve been taking a lot of workout classes lately because its hard to get motivated on my own. I’ve found a few I love so now I enjoy going to the gym.

Sounds like you have been doing great on a lot of your goals! I also am trying to focus on eating healthier options and going to the gym at least 5x a week.
