Ken and I hadn’t seen each other since March. We celebrated our four-year anniversary together during my spring break, and then thanks to my summer job and final semester of college, we did eight straight months of long distance. When it turned out he had a conference in Seattle this weekend, we decided to splurge and fly me out to see him. We’ve spent the last week in Seattle together, happy and in love!
A few months ago, I spotted a peg doll nativity set on Pinterest. Peg dolls are simple wooden dolls that can be painted or etched to create sets for children to play with, or simply to display. In recent years, they’ve become increasingly popular in Christian circles for Nativity or Easter sets. Once I saw the set online, I knew I simply had to make my own. It took me a few days and several bottles of inexpensive acrylic paint to do, but I am so, so happy with the results!

People talk about best friend goals all the time, but I really feel like I hit the jackpot. There are few things that I love more in life than my friends. Through the best and worst of times they have always been at my side, whether traveling across the world to see me, writing me cards and letters on tough days, or just being there for a cup of tea and a hug. In turn, I do my best to be a good friend to them by making them feel special and loved. Today, I’m sharing a list of ways you can make your friends feel special! Be sure to read below, and leave a comment letting me know what you do to help your friends feel appreciated.
I’ve been struggling to write this post because I’m struggling to find the words to sum up the last few days. Readers may know that we both attend Wellesley College, which is Hillary Clinton’s alma mater. We both were looking forward to this election, and we were both hoping (and praying) for a different outcome than the one ultimately that happened. Since the election of the new President on Tuesday, America has been swept up in a series of hate crimes, including one on Wellesley’s own campus, in which two white men jeered outside the house for students of African descent and spit on a person of color.
We are hurting. We are grieving. We are afraid.
What do I have to say about this election? As a woman, what do I have to say about a president-elect who brags about sexual assault? As an immigrant who loves this country and chose to make it her home, what do I have to say about a man who wants to push out those seeking refuge? As a Christian, what do I have to say about a person who regularly lies, who mocks the disabled, who appeals to fear and anger, who seems to care more about being great or successful than being good?
I have no words. So, in the absence of speaking, I am trying to do.
